Nate TaylorI started writing programs in QBasic on my 8086 clone. Istill remember the day I went running down the hall excited because I realizedI could compile the code into a stand-alone exe and not just run it from withinthe IDE. My friends and I would try to write a text-based choose our ownadventure game. We only know if-then-goto so it got messy really quick and we'dsoon abandon it, only to try again in a few months. In 1998 I wrote Crash2000, a Y2K tester for Windows. Thebest review stated, "The documentation looks like it was written by akindergartner". Needless to say, it wasn't a huge success. After graduating college with a degree in electricalengineering, I quickly realized that I'm not good at circuit design, so Iswitched to writing software. Since then I've developed windows apps in C++ and.Net, and finally moved to developing on the web in 2010.**Topic:
**TDD isn't just about testingYour code is messy. Trust me. I've seen it. It's not thatyou haven't tried. You've created UML diagrams, flow charts, state diagrams. You've used Visio, and Photoshop and Balsamiq to try and come up with a goodclean design. Despite all your best efforts at getting a good design andsticking to it, it's messy. You promise yourself that the next project will bebetter, you won't make the same mistakes. But at the end of that project allyou want to do is throw it away and start over. Things are duct-taped togetherand in 8 months when you go to add a feature, you can't remember what code didwhat or where this next feature should go. If there's a bug the easiest way tofind it is place a dozen breakpoints and step through the code.**Sponsor:
